Dr. Caitlin Szurek, DVM, CPEV

Dr. Cate Szurek is a veterinarian based in Brighton, Michigan. She graduated from Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and spent 7 years practicing as a general veterinarian. During this time, she felt a strong calling to support her clients through one of the most challenging yet profound experiences — the loss of their beloved pets. These moments of connection inspired her to devote her practice to peaceful end-of-life pet care.

Dr. Cate believe that the most significant time in our pets' lives are their final moments with us. She understands the difficulty of maintaining comfort and reducing stress during this time, which can often be challenging in a clinic environment. Having experienced the heartbreaking loss of pets herself, she is familiar with the fear and stress this period can bring. This personal insight led her to establish Peaceful Promise, a mobile pet euthanasia service, so that she can provide support to her patients and their families in the comfort of their own homes.

Born in South Africa, Dr. Cate moved to the US as a teenager. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys spending time with her family, practicing yoga, hiking, exploring small towns, and actively participating in her local community. She shares her home with her husband, their young daughter, and their spirited cat named Margaret Catwood.

Dr. Cate is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, and the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care. She holds the certification of Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Veterinarian (CPEV) and has completed advanced continuing education through the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy. Additionally, she is certified in Low Stress Handling for both cats and dogs.
